Year 9

Year 9 is a very important year for students at Stoke Park School. After Christmas students choose their subject options for Year 10/11. An Options Evening is held where parents and pupils get the opportunity to speak to subject staff to discuss which options would be best suited to the individual pupil.

Tutors and the pastoral team work closely with students and departments to help decide on a curriculum that is best suited for the career path students wish to follow. This primarily takes place during registration and during designated pastoral sessions (Assemblies). This is followed by a subject parents evening where parents and students have yet another opportunity to discuss options before their final decision is made.

Year 9 is the final year in which all students cover the whole curriculum. It is therefore essential that students demonstrate a good attitude to learning to ensure they fulfil their full potential, thus giving them a wide variety of option choices. Year 9 will also see the start of some GCSE level courses (Maths, English and Science). This is to allow them to fully understand the requirements of these courses and to hone their skills in these disciplines

There are a variety of curriculum days that allow students to widen their skills/knowledge in a number of contexts relating to SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual and Communication). Previous events have included Study Skills Day, Citizenship Day and Healthy Lifestyle Day. Students also have the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities to help develop confidence, independence and enjoyment of learning. Students also take part in a number of reward trips outside the curriculum area.
